CRC-P Grants to focus on critical minerals

14 March 2019

Prioritising research and development on critical minerals projects is a key focus of the newly announced Round 7 Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-Ps) from the Federal Government.

Announced by The Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Karen Andrews, and the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Matt Canavan, the CRC-P grants will support the commercialisation of technologies, products and services, providing tangible benefits and solving challenges for the mining industry.

Critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt and titanium have been recognised as essential to the nation's economic and strategic security and could cause economic or strategic issues if affected by supply disruptions. Up to $20 million will be available for critical minerals applications as part of this funding round.

The funding is available for grants of up to $3 million, over a maximum period of three years. In addition to applications in the critical minerals field, the round is open to all industry sectors.

Up to $20 million will be available for critical minerals applications that are necessary in the manufacturing of high-tech and high value products, including electric vehicles, battery storage, smart phones, laptops and other electronics and industrial applications.

Applications for Round 7 close at 5:00pm AEDT, 28 March 2019, with funding outcomes expected to be announced in June 2019.
