Smart Australia mentoring takes SMEs global at Gastech 2018

Energy resources entrepreneurs and innovators from across Australia are one step closer to global export opportunities after taking part in Smart Australia - a tailored industry program designed to ‘take local global’ and showcase Australia’s capability across the oil and gas supply chain.

Ten small to medium enterprises (SMEs) representing a diverse spectrum of innovative services and products were selected to take part in Smart Australia and gathered in Perth on 3 August 2018 for the full-day workshop ahead of attending Gastech 2018 in Barcelona, Spain from 17-20 September.

Developed by NERA (National Energy Resources Australia) – the Australian Government's Growth Centre for the oil, gas and energy resources sector – Smart Australia’s mentoring program provides each company with customised advice to identify in-market opportunities, scope relevant commercial and financial strategies and acquire the skills, language and tools to create tangible export outcomes.

NERA CEO Miranda Taylor said Smart Australia was developed to provide SMEs, in the lead up to their journey to Gastech 2018, with the knowledge and capabilities they will need to successfully access and participate in the global market.

“Smart Australia program is akin to a global export ‘boot camp’ – designed to help Australian SMEs open doors, make introductions and give our local entrepreneurs and innovative companies the tools they need to turbo charge their international growth prospects,” Ms Taylor said.

“When they arrive at Gastech – an event attended by 30,000 people from more than 90 countries - our participants will be perfectly positioned to get the most from the experience and build their international network and export opportunities,” Ms Taylor said.

“For the last 45 years, Gastech has been the meeting place for the international gas, LNG and energy industries. For the first time in the event’s history, NERA – with support from Austrade - will present a unified Australia as a technology leader in the energy supply chain and showcase the best companies from ‘down under’.”

The 10 Smart Australia participants represent a diverse spectrum of services and products - all of them involved in developing new technology and add value to and potential solutions to the problems the oil and gas industry is experiencing.

NERA believes encouraging and promoting Australia’s best small businesses and entrepreneurs will bring significant benefits for the energy sector and the broader Australian economy.

Visitors can find the Smart Australia companies (listed below) and more at NERA’s Australia Pavilion at Gastech 2018 at Barcelona from 17-20 September 2018.
