Miranda Taylor, CEO
As NERA chief executive, Miranda is a strategic leader at the forefront of innovation and collaboration within the Australian energy resources sector.
With more than 20 years’ experience in strategic policy, risk management and stakeholder engagement, drives sector-wide transformational change by bringing together the country’s best minds from technology, research and enterprise to build a more sustainable and efficient energy resources sector.
Miranda has overseen NERA since its inception in 2016 and her leadership transforms thinking and processes within the sector for the benefit of the Australian economy – now and into the future.
Francis Norman, General Manager – Innovation & Strategy
Francis holds the role of NERA General Manager, Innovation and Strategy, where his responsibilities include monitoring emerging developments in the energy resources sector and the development of key documents such as NERA’s Sector Competitiveness Plan (SCP).
Francis began his career as an instrumentation engineer in the UK, moving to Australia in 1993. His career has seen him live and work for extended periods in Brazil, South Korea, India, Germany and Norway on a range of process intensive resource projects. Since settling in Perth in 2003 Francis has overseen the delivery of a number of major projects into the Western Australian resources sector and, from 2006, has held senior leadership roles in major engineering companies where his responsibilities included strategic planning for both the business environment and future workforce requirements. Francis is a Chartered Fellow and Engineering Executive with Engineers Australia where he was also the 2015 Western Australian Division President, he is a member of the International Centre for Complex Project Management (ICCPM) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He holds an MSc in Project Management and is completing a PhD in management through Curtin University.
Paul Hodgson, General Manager Innovation and Stakeholder Engagement (East Coast)
As General Manager, Innovation and Stakeholder Engagement (East Coast) for the NERA, Paul works with stakeholders to increase the productivity, competitiveness and export potential of the energy resources sectors. Paul has a Bachelor of International Business, a Master of Sustainable Development and has recently commenced a part-time PhD in Small to Medium Enterprise Succession. Paul has spent over 20 years exploring the competitiveness of businesses, industries and regions, and designing and implementing strategies to improve performance through innovation and collaboration.
Andrew Bennett, Communications Manager
Joining NERA in 2018, Andrew brings energy and enthusiasm to his role as Communications Manager. Andrew coordinates the development of strategic communication activities and stakeholder engagement opportunities across Australia to promote NERA’s brand and vision. Prior to joining NERA, Andrew developed considerable experience drawn from public and private sector communications and public relations positions. Andrew is also a qualified lawyer, completing a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Hons).
Polly Whakaari, Commercial Manager & Company Secretary
Polly is responsible for supporting the CEO and General Managers at NERA on commercial, business strategy, business risk and business administration issues. She manages the stakeholder engagement strategy, communications plan, branding and coordinates statutory reporting to the Commonwealth.
Polly has a wealth of experience in corporate strategy development and execution, financial management, program and project management. Prior to NERA, she held a number of senior positions at State Trustees, including Strategy Execution Manager and Acting General Manager of Corporate Operations. She holds a Bachelor in Management Studies, majoring in finance and human resource management from Waikato University, New Zealand.
Matt Smith, Project Manager
Matt is responsible for NERA’s environmental and exploration projects, seeking to reduce barriers for investment in Australia and assisting industry in earning its social license to operate. Matt has an engineering background and a Masters in Business Administration. Prior to joining NERA, Matt has worked in the petroleum and shipping industries for 15 years in operations, regulatory, business development, and training roles.
Tim Duff, Project Manager
As Project Manager at NERA, Tim has a national focus as a key liaison with the Australian Uranium Industry. Tim supports NERA’s role to create connections to innovate and transform the energy resources sector by promoting collaboration in the energy resources sector and promoting outcomes that are practical, adoptable and can be commercialised.
Prior to joining NERA, Tim was Senior Specialist for Environment and Radiation at Cameco Australia, predominately working on the Environmental Approvals for the Yeelirrie and Kintyre Projects. Tim holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Environmental Engineering) with Honours.
Melissa Tremlett, Executive Assistant / Events and Office Manager
Melissa provides executive level support and coordination for the Chief Executive Officer, NERA team, Chair and Non-executive Directors. Melissa performs a full range of events management and office management services to ensure the smooth and effective administration of the executive office and events. Prior to joining NERA, Melissa worked in the construction industry and assurance services sector working in various roles bringing a diversified skill set covering, executive assistance, secretarial support, office, events and people management, communications and stakeholder engagement, accounts management and project management. Melissa holds a Diploma in Management and an Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management.
Lindsey Macqueen, Communications Officer
Lindsey joined the NERA team in mid-2018, offering support to the communications team in an exciting time of exponential growth. She assists with the production and editing of internal and external communications, and maintains and updates the website, social media platforms and online media subscriptions. Lindsey holds a Bachelor of Arts (English and Writing) and a Master of Media and Communication (Professional Writing and Publishing).
