NERA (National Energy Resources Australia) welcomed NSW Chief Data Scientist Dr Ian Oppermann to present at CORE Innovation Hub on Digital Transformation in Practice.
Dr Oppermann focused on his experience leading the new NSW Data Analytics Centre to highlight the impact of technology on society, how data science can drive productivity and innovation in the public sector, and create new knowledge and insights that have never been available before.
Through illustrating two recent case studies, Dr Oppermann revealed how data science can help understand areas of risk within an environment to ultimately inform new ways of operating. With Australia’s energy resources sector facing disruption from technological innovation, regulatory factors, and increasing competition, Dr Oppermann’s insights suggest that if the value of data is harnessed effectively, it can transform how industry operates.
